Delhi experienced its chilliest night of the winter season on Thursday, with the mercury plummeting to 8.5 degrees Celsius, marking a sharp decline from 12.5 degrees Celsius the previous night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the minimum temperature may drop further to around 7 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
This steep four-degree dip in 24 hours set a new seasonal low, surpassing the second-coldest night of this winter on November 26, when the temperature hit 9.5 degrees Celsius. Historical comparisons reveal that last year, Delhi recorded a minimum of 9.5 degrees Celsius on November 29, while the coldest night in 2022 registered 7.6 degrees Celsius.

While the nighttime chill intensified, daytime temperatures also remained brisk. On Thursday, the maximum temperature settled at 25.1 degrees Celsius, making it the second-lowest of the season. The season’s lowest daytime high so far was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius on November 18.
Humidity levels oscillated between 46% and 64% during the day, adding to the wintry feel in the capital. As residents wrapped themselves in woollens and braved the biting cold, weather officials warned of shallow fog conditions on Friday.
The IMD has forecast that Friday’s temperatures will range between a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius, keeping the city in the grip of winter’s chilly embrace. With temperatures expected to dip further in the coming days, Delhiites are gearing up for a colder December. The city’s winter chill has become more pronounced, signaling the onset of the peak cold season. Stay warm and keep an eye on the weather updates to plan your days ahead!
